1. What is an eSIM?
An eSIM (digital SIM) is a tiny, permanent chip built directly into your device. It connects you to a mobile network 100% digitally, meaning you don't need to handle, swap, or lose a physical plastic SIM card.
 
2. What is the difference between a physical SIM and an eSIM?
A physical SIM is a detachable plastic chip you insert into your phone. An eSIM is already embedded in your phone's hardware, whereby you download a digital data plan to activate it.
 
3. Is my device compatible with an eSIM? 

Most modern smartphones support eSIM, but your device must be carrier-unlocked and not jailbroken or rooted. You can check using the following methods:

  • Universal check (all devices): Dial *#06# and press call. If an EID number is displayed, your device supports eSIM.

  • iPhone (XS or newer):

    • Go to Settings > General > About

    • Check Carrier Lock. It should say No SIM Restrictions

    • Scroll down and look for a 15-digit IMEI under Available SIM or Digital SIM

  • Android:

    • Go to Settings > Connections > SIM Manager or Network & Internet

    • Look for options like Add Mobile Plan or Download a SIM instead

 
4. Can I use my physical SIM and the travel eSIM at the same time?
Yes. This is the advantage of Dual SIM technology. You can keep your physical home SIM active for emergency calls and SMS (via your home provider) while using the travel eSIM strictly for mobile data to avoid roaming charges.
 
5. Can I make phone calls or send SMS with this eSIM?
No. This eSIM is data-only, so it does not support regular calls or SMS and does not include a local phone number. You can still use apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, FaceTime, or Messenger to call and message using mobile data.
 
6. Does the eSIM support 5Gor mobile hotspots?

Yes. Support for 5G and personal hotspot depends on the device and local network:

  • 5G: Most eSIMs support 4G/LTE, while 5G may be available in selected regions on compatible devices. Speed depends on local network coverage.

  • Hotspot: Yes, a personal hotspot is usually supported if the local network allows tethering.

 
7. How can I buy a Travel eSIM on Shopee?

Step 1: Click on the Me tab

Step 2: Click See More in the Financial Services section

Step 3: Click on Prepaid, Bills & Tickets

Step 4: You will be directed to the Digital Product homepage, and click on View All

Step 5: Select eSIM under Travel & Transportation

Step 6: Select your desired destination

 

Step 7: Each destination may offer multiple eSIM packages, such as:

  • Package options: Daily Data, Fixed Data

  • Number of days: 1 to 31 days of usage  

Step 8: Select your preferred eSIM package and usage duration > Click Confirm to proceed with payment 

Step 9: You will then be directed to the Checkout page, and click Pay Now 

Step 10: Select your preferred Payment Method > Click Pay Now 

Step 11: Click View Order Details, and you will be directed to the Order Details page 

Step 12: You may then activate the eSIM by clicking the Activate eSIM Now button

 

 

On the ShopeePay App:

8. Will this eSIM work if I travel across multiple countries?
It depends on the plan you purchased. A Multi-country Plan works across all countries included in the package, while a Single Country Plan only works in the selected destination. 
 
9. Is there an option for a physical SIM card?
