Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) verification methods serve as an added layer of security to protect your Shopee account from unauthorised actions.
For example, you may be asked to verify your identity through 2FA verification methods when taking important actions such as logging in, changing passwords, and adding bank account information.
There are 6 types of 2FA verification methods that you may come across:
⚠️ Note
If you are unable to proceed due to a system error or reaching the maximum number of tries for a 2FA method, you may:
1. Face Verification
To authenticate via face verification successfully, ensure that:
⚠️ Note
Verify your ShopeePay to enable the face verification 2FA method
2. QR Code
To verify via QR code, simply access the QR code scanner via the Shopee App homepage and scan the QR code generated. As a QR code expires within 10 minutes after it’s generated, you can refresh to generate a new one where necessary.
⚠️ Note
If your QR code is generated by phone, you will need to scan this QR Code using a separate phone that has your Shopee account logged in.
3. Authentication link
To verify via authentication link, select the authentication link that was sent via email/SMS/WhatsApp to your registered email address or phone number. Then, you’ll be redirected to a page where you can approve or deny the action that triggered this verification (e.g. approving/denying login attempt from a new device). You can resend another authentication link after 60 seconds if you did not receive the first one.
4. One-Time Password (OTP)
To verify by OTP, enter the 6-digit verification code sent via email/SMS/WhatsApp to your registered email address or phone number. You can resend a new code after 60 seconds if you do not receive the first one.
⚠️ Note
Never share your OTP with anyone, even Shopee staff.
5. Password
Your account password can also be used as a form of verification. Do note that there is a limit to the number of password verifications you can perform daily.
6. ShopeePay PIN
ShopeePay PIN can also be used as a verification method. Do note that your ShopeePay wallet may be temporarily disabled for 30 minutes if you enter the wrong PIN too many times.
If you continue to enter the wrong PIN after this, your ShopeePay may be frozen. For further assistance, kindly contact us via the channels at the bottom of the page.
7. Fingerprint Verification
Ensure that your device has a fingerprint scanner and that you have registered your fingerprint in your device's settings. Open the Shopee app and navigate to the Settings page, click on Account & Security and enable the Fingerprint Authentication toggle. Once it is enabled, you'll be granted instant access to your Shopee account, eliminating the need to enter a password and enhancing your account's security.
