[ShopeeFood Merchant] Type of Halal Classification in ShopeeFood (Halal Requirements)

English | Bahasa Malaysia

What is Halal?

Halal is an Arabic word that means permissible. A Certified Halal product means that The product (food, drinks, or cooking) or the premise itself is permissible or acceptable in accordance with Islamic law, and has been endorsed and certified by the Government Body which is JAKIM. In order for products to receive this certification, they must be from an acceptable source such as a cow or chicken and slaughtered according to these laws.

Halal certification applies to the food, restaurants, cosmetic and pharmaceutical sectors and attests that a product is manufactured in full compliance with the precepts of Islamic Law, that it does not include any “forbidden” components, and has in no way been in contact with any substances or objects considered “impure”.

HALALNON-HALALNON CERTIFIED HALAL
Definition: Halal refers to anything that is permissible or lawful according to Islamic law (Shariah). In Malaysia, Halal products, especially food and beverages, must comply with strict guidelines set by JAKIM, including the sourcing of ingredients, preparation, and handling processes.Definition: Non-Halal refers to products or practices that are explicitly prohibited or forbidden in Islam. Such products or services cannot be consumed or used by Muslims.Definition: Not Certified Halal refers to products or services that have not undergone the official Halal certification process. This means that the product might be Halal, but without certification, there is no guarantee that it meets all the standards set by JAKIM.
Criteria: Halal products must not contain any haram (forbidden) ingredients, such as pork, alcohol, or improperly slaughtered animals. Additionally, the process of slaughtering animals for consumption must adhere to Islamic practices.Examples: Foods containing pork, alcohol, improperly slaughtered meat, or food prepared using equipment contaminated with Haram substances.Implications: Products labeled as "Not Certified Halal" may be ambiguous for Muslim consumers because their status cannot be verified without proper certification. Some businesses may label their products this way if they haven't sought or obtained JAKIM's certification, even if they claim to follow Halal practices.
Halal Certification: JAKIM or other recognized bodies issue Halal certificates after thorough inspections and evaluations. Products bearing the Halal logo are recognized as meeting these requirements.Labeling: Non-Halal products should be clearly labeled as such in markets or restaurants to inform Muslim consumers.Food products sold under this category are prohibited from selling non-Halal food and beverages.
