What is Zakat? 

Zakat is an obligation in Islam to make contributions towards the less fortunate. It is one of the five pillars of Islam and is intended to redistribute wealth between the rich and the poor as well as cleanse the wealth of those who pay Zakat. 



Who can / is obliged to pay Zakat? 

Muslims are generally required to contribute 2.5% of their income as Zakat if they meet the following conditions:

  • They have been employed for more than a year and earn an income above the minimum threshold.
  • They meet Nisab requirements.
  • They have absolute ownership of the property, and the property must be either a growing asset or have the potential to grow.

 

 

Which Zakat institutions partnered with Shopee? 

Shopee has partnered with several local Zakat Institutions as follows:

  • Pusat Pungutan Zakat MAIWP (PPZ)
  • Majlis Agama Islam Dan 'Adat Melayu Perak (MAIPk)
  • Zakat Sabah (MUIS)
  • Zakat Pulau Pinang (ZPP)
  • Pusat Kutipan Zakat Pahang (PKZP)

Is Zakat payment through Shopee valid?

Shopee is appointed by respective Zakat Institutions as as authorized Zakat payment channel for Zakat institutions.

Will a receipt be given after the Zakat contribution is made via Shopee App?

You will receive an in-app payment confirmation on Zakat Order Details page upon successful payments. 

 

However, for official receipt with tax exemption related inquiries, you are advised to be in touch with the relevant Zakat Institutions via the following as below:
